Moving to Brighton for university is exciting, but choosing where to live takes more than finding a flat you like in a photograph. Start with your campus, your budget and how you want to spend your day. This guide helps you work through those decisions.
Start with your university campus
Do not assume that a central Brighton address means a short walk to every university building. The University of Brighton has City, Moulsecoomb and Falmer campuses. The University of Sussex is at Falmer, outside the city centre.
Before choosing a flat, find the campus used by your course and check the full journey from your front door, including walking to a stop or station. Use the universities’ own University of Brighton campus maps and travel information and University of Sussex directions. Check current timetables and student ticket options before buying a travel pass.
Choose a location around your routine
Think about what you want nearby: a supermarket, a quiet study space, transport, friends or the beach. Visit the area if you can and consider the journey home after evening activities as well as the morning commute.
The 1815 Building is at 43A Kings Road, on the central Brighton seafront. It is a setting for people who want city life and the beach close by. Some of our flats have sea views; others face the rear. Compare the individual layouts and photographs rather than assuming every flat has the same outlook.
Build a complete monthly budget
Compare rent on the same basis. A weekly figure is not simply a monthly rent divided by four: monthly rent × 12 ÷ 52 gives the weekly equivalent.
At the time of this update, our advertised rents range from £850 to £1,650 per calendar month across studios and one- and two-bedroom flats. Use the current flat listings for individual prices. High-speed WiFi is included; other included utilities vary by flat.
Allow separately for any bills you are responsible for, food, travel, study materials and personal spending. With us, there is no deposit or guarantor requirement, and your rent will not increase for at least the first two years of your stay.
Check what you need to bring
Our flats are furnished, including a bed and a desk with an office chair. Check your chosen flat’s equipment list and ask us about anything you are unsure of before buying items for the move.
Every flat has its own kitchen and bathroom. Most have an in-flat washer/dryer; Flats 1A and 11 each use a washing machine shared with one other flat. Your flat is professionally cleaned before arrival, and we also handle the move-out clean at no extra charge.
Plan ahead without relying on old availability notices
